The Metropolitan Hotel

Metropolitan on Urbanspoon

This place is about five minutes walk from Flagstaff station (note: Flagstaff station is closed on weekends). If you want to go there during the weekend, you can take the free city circle tram from Melbourne Central station or a tram from Southern Cross station and get off at William st.
This is a pub that does $10/$15 meal deals especially on a weeknight and weekday lunchtimes. This deal is often featured on your dockets as well as the Entertainment book. I went there with my library group of twenty people and they were quite accommodating. The bill came out to be around $200, but because of my discount we only had to pay about $150. That is quite reasonable for a group of twenty people. Their meal portions are huge just like any other pub. I had the grilled wrap with chips for free, because of my entertainment book offer, so was happy with that and the quality of the food.
I wouldn’t mind coming again.
UPDATEED: They now have a 25% off Entertainment book voucher in the Entertainment book

The duke of Kent hotel

Duke of Kent Hotel on Urbanspoon

They cater for all types of diets, such as vegetarian and gluten free. Although their meals are $15, they have huge servings. Sorry they do not sell desserts. They only do pub meals.
The last two or three times that I went their food was great. They have chicken parmigiana, fish and chips, pasta and steak. It is not some glorified casino, instead it is a proper pub. I haven’t tried out any of their alcoholic drinks because I don’t drink alcohol, but I heard that it is pretty decent.
This is a good place to go to after work or after uni on a thursday night.

drinks with friends visit 2

Today there was another drinks with Friends event at the city campus. But this time there was no free food and the only food was sausages and bread. I’m mainly a vegetarian, but i do like my fish and occasionally I will have meat.
This was on a gray day at Pearson’s and Murphy’s cafe. I was outside freezing my butt off. I had a green tea, to be healthy.
The sausages were provided and sold by a student club wanting to raise money for their end of year ball. I didn’t have a sausage, but some of my collegues did. The shouting to get everyone to buy a sausage was annoying though and I wished that they did cater for the vegetarians though
